Lynn Terry has been running the Self-Starters Weekly Tips website for almost 7 years now, and I recently joined her Elite mastermind group. She has been in business since the late 90’s, helping others start and grow their online business.
I had an opportunity to ask her a few questions about SSWT and mastermind groups, and will share that conversation with you here…
Grace: Why did you start SSWT?
Lynn: Originally I had a Web Development company which I started locally. Soon after I took it online and had an international web team. Both online and offline I found that the part about my business I enjoyed most was helping people take their ideas and turn them into profitable online business models.
I started with consulting, but my audience grew fast so I began publishing an email newsletter to keep everyone updated with the latest resources and marketing ideas. Almost 7 years ago I put that newsletter online and expanded it into an interactive community.
Not long after I closed my web dev business and stopped taking clients altogether, focusing instead of the do-it-yourself market and the community of self-starters I had created.
Grace: Who is SSWT for?
Lynn: SSWT is a great community for anyone that is self-motivated, self-taught, self-employed – or ready to become self-employed by starting an online business. We discuss news and trends, share resources, offer feedback on websites and projects. It’s a great place to get your questions answered, and also to meet and network with other online business owners.
The site offers a weekly newsletter, weekly free webinar, a public discussion forum and a private mastermind group.
Grace: How is the SSWT Elite Group different from other mastermind groups?
Lynn: The Elite Members at SSWT are those who make up the private mastermind group. It is a very committed group, with a wide range of skill sets. Unlike most memberships which are content based, our membership is community based. It’s a very active community with a number of projects and discussions going on each and every day.
While I manage and oversee the group, and work personally with each member, what sets us apart is the member interaction. All of our members are working together on a daily basis to help each other reach their goals.
Grace: What kind of success stories do you see from the Elite Members?
Lynn: This is the best part of what I do 
I’ve seen members with no prior experience set up their first website, learn SEO and achieve top search engine rankings, create their first info product, make their first sale, go from struggling to get started – to earning an income online every month.
We also have more experienced members who are really taking things to the next level. It’s amazing to watch and be involved in this kind of fast progress!
Grace: SSWT is growing, what is its future?
Lynn: My goal is and always has been to provide a community where people can get real help, and avoid the scams and distractions so common in the “make money online” market. Going forward I am taking on a team and expanding in an effort to reach more people before they make any of those common and costly mistakes.
My plan includes producing even more content and free reports, and continuing to expand my reach through social media.
Grace: What advice would you give to anyone wanting to join a mastermind group?
Lynn: No one group is going to be a perfect match for everyone. I recommend that you get to know the leader through their blog, through Twitter, or through any public work that they do online.
Also ask your peers for recommendations. Finding your own mastermind group is a key part in moving your business forward, so you want to make sure you choose an active and productive group where you feel comfortable.
Grace: What is one of the biggest advantages of your Elite group at SSWT?
Lynn: We’re there. Every day, day in and day out. We have a private forum set up that locks out both lurkers and search engines, and the forum is active on a daily basis – allowing you to ask questions and get feedback 7 days a week.
We also network heavily within our group, which has helped a lot of the newer members to get their first website launched, indexed and active.
Let me say this in a nutshell, I has so much success in starting my blog and learning so much about affiliate marketing, search engine optimization and niche selection with SSWT elite members. Lynn is so awesome, she is in the forum daily and offers personal attention.
Honestly I was in another membership groups trying to learn all about affiliate marketing but I never progressed. There was no personal attention and I could not afford a personal mentor or coach, joining SSWT has been a blessing.
